The Hamilton College Continentals raced in the NESCAC West Division men's rowing event held on Onota Lake in Pittsfield, Mass., on Sunday afternoon.
Hamilton was joined by host Williams College, Wesleyan University and Trinity College. The races were the last of the spring season for the Continentals.
"The men's varsity 8+ raced a more complete race this weekend, narrowing the margin from our previous weekend with Williams," Head Coach Jim Lister said. "The men's 2V8+ had several switches of personnel in the boat and needed more time to work through the changes. We wish we had more time in this condensed season. We have a great bunch of seniors that we will surely miss. They provided so much to the program and we are all grateful to have had the opportunity to train and race together."
Racing conditions for the 2,000-meter course included a 10-to-15 mile per hour quartering tailwind with gusts that was building through racing. There was significant chop in the second thousand meters.
"Racing four boats across with Wesleyan, Trinity and Williams was one of the most exciting race experiences for our athletes," Lister said. "The weather proved to be a challenge with wind for the men's races in the morning and a cold rain for the women's race in the afternoon. Yet, in spite of the conditions, it's another obstacle for the athletes to learn how to overcome and stay focused on the boat performance."
