Box Score The Hamilton College Continentals defeated the Utica College Pioneers 19-2 in a non-conference matchup and remained the reigning Contineer Cup trophy winners for the 10th consecutive year on Wednesday evening at Hamilton's Withiam Field.
Henry Hunt '20 guided the Continentals (1-1 overall) with four goals and one assist. Ryan Friedman '21 scored three times while Will Braun '22, Charlie Ratner '22, Andrew Cox '20, Rowan Brumbaugh '23 and Austin Scronce '21 all scored twice, and Tim Sommer '22 and Torben Wunderle '23 scored one goal apiece. Wunderle recorded three assists and Hagen Wunderle '21 and Jack Jennings '23 had two each.
Quin Crowley '22 won 11 of 16 faceoffs and grabbed five ground balls. Alec Zenker '23 won 2 of 5 faceoffs and had three ground balls. Hunt picked up a team-high nine ground balls and James Sanderson '21, Marc Welch '22 and Brumbaugh all had three.
Max Scheidl '21 made six saves through the first half and picked up his first win of the season. Seamus Fagan '22 relieved Scheidl at the start of the second and stopped seven shots.
Hamilton blanked Utica 4-0 in the first quarter and took a 13-1 lead by halftime. Hunt scored a natural hat trick as he recorded three consecutive goals. His first came at the end of the first quarter with no time left on the clock. He scored again 30 seconds into the second quarter and the third goal came with 12:54 left in the quarter.
Utica (0-3) scored its first goal with 10:55 remaining in the second quarter. The Pioneers scored their second goal at the 10:27 mark in the third quarter and pulled within 13-2. The Continentals scored two more goals in the third and headed into the final quarter with a 15-2 lead. Hamilton blanked Utica again in the fourth quarter and scored four more goals for the final margin.
The Continentals return to NESCAC action on Saturday, March 7 for a 1 p.m. contest against the Bowdoin College Polar Bears back on Withiam Field.
