Hunt '20 ties career high with three goals in men's lacrosse loss

Trinity College scored five goals in the fourth quarter and the Bantams pulled away from the Hamilton College Continentals for a 14-9 NESCAC victory at Trinity's Jessee/Miller Field on Saturday afternoon in Hartford, Conn.

The Continentals (1-10, 0-7 NESCAC) received three goals from Henry Hunt '20, two apiece from Henry Hill '19 and Chad Morse '19, and one goal each from Clay McCollum '19 and Zach Larsen '19. Larsen added three assists while Chris Conley '20, Brock Bowers '20 and Jack Warren '19 all were credited with one.

James Sanderson '21 collected five ground balls and Andrej Bogdanovics '19 scooped up two for Hamilton. Goaltender Kyle Gately '20 made 17 saves and Eric Zurmuehle '18 won eight faceoffs. Gately leads the NESCAC with 139 stops.

Freshman Drew Kozub paced Trinity's offense with a career-high five goals. Teddy Myers scored twice and assisted on two other goals, and Ben Knaus registered one goal and two assists. Scott Morgan won 14 of 21 faceoffs and picked up 12 ground balls. Matt Fleischmann led the defense with four caused turnovers and four ground balls, and Woody Hamilton made 10 of his 12 saves in the fourth quarter.

The Continentals opened with a scoring flurry in the opening 2:47 of the first quarter. Morse struck first just 18 seconds into the game off a pass from Warren. Just over a minute later, Bowers fed Hill and he found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. Hunt followed with his first of the day 53 seconds later off a pass from Larsen during an extra-man opportunity. McCollum scored unassisted with 6:59 left in the quarter for a 4-0 Hamilton lead.

Trinity (4-6, 1-5) responded with five unanswered goals, including two by Kozub, for a 5-4 lead with 4:45 remaining in the second quarter. The Bantams took their one-goal edge into the break.

With 12:42 left in the third, Larsen tied the score at 5-5 off a pass from Conley for his seventh goal of the season. The Continentals regained the lead a little more than four minutes later when Larsen passed to Hunt for a man-up goal and his second tally of the day.

Trinity answered with four straight goals, including one just before time expired at the end of the third quarter, and grabbed a 9-6 advantage. Kozub's third goal of the day with 4:36 to go put the Bantams in front to stay at 7-6.

Hill pulled Hamilton within two goals 33 seconds into the fourth quarter, only to be followed by five consecutive goals in a span of 3:20 by Trinity. Myers scored twice during the run and Kozub added his fifth of the day. The Continentals closed out the scoring with goals by Hunt and Morse midway through the fourth.

Hamilton travels to Williams College on Tuesday, April 10 for a midweek NESCAC game against the Ephs at 6 p.m.
