Box Score

Nine Bates College players scored at least one goal and the nationally ranked No. 6 Bobcats posted a 19-10 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Bates' Garcelon Field on Sunday afternoon.

Hamilton (3-6, 1-4 NESCAC) received a career-high four goals from Henry Hill '19. Clay McCollum '19 scored three times for the second straight game and leads the Continentals with 18 goals and 22 points. Casey Kopp '17 scooped up five ground balls and Matt Greene '18 and Zach Kleinbaum '19 picked up four apiece. Noah Weissmann '18 started in goal and made 10 saves, and John Schisler '17 stopped 10 more shots after he relieved Weissmann at the start of the second half.

Charlie Fay paced the undefeated Bobcats (8-0, 5-0) with five goals and an assist. Andrew Melvin chipped in three goals and two helpers and Kyle Weber added three goals and an assist. Clarke Jones boasted a pair of goals and an assist and Jake Walsh passed out three assists. Sam Francis won 23 of 27 faceoffs and collected 12 ground balls. Jack O'Brien contributed seven ground balls and Charlie Gravina caused two turnovers. Mitchell Drake started in goal and turned away six shots in three quarters. Rob Strain and Jared Baumann made one save apiece in the fourth quarter.

Weber gave Bates a 1-0 lead just 69 seconds into the first quarter but Hill scored on a feed from Chad Morse '19 and tied it at 1-1 nearly five minutes later. Fay put the Bobcats back in the lead one minute later only to have McCollum tie the score again with 6:27 left in the first.

Bates scored the last three goals of the first quarter -- the last two by Fay -- and took a 5-2 lead after one. Andrew Melvin gave the Bobcats a four-goal cushion early in the second quarter just 8 seconds into an extra-man opportunity.

McCollum cut Hamilton's deficit in half on his second goal of the day with 9:44 remaining in the half. Bates responded with three goals by three different players in a span of 2:01 midway through the quarter and led by at least five goals the rest of the way. The Bobcats held an 11-4 advantage at the break and increased their lead to a nine-goal cushion at 17-8 after three quarters. The action-packed third featured a combined 10 goals by the teams.

The Continentals visit Middlebury College for another NESCAC game on Wednesday, April 5 at 5 p.m.
