Two goals for Bowers '20, McCollum '19 in men's lacrosse loss

Nazareth College scored seven goals in the second quarter and the Golden Flyers posted a 15-5 non-conference win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Withiam Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The Continentals (2-4 overall) jumped out to a 3-0 lead midway through the first quarter but scored two goals over the final 50 minutes. Brock Bowers '20 and Clay McCollum '19 tallied two goals apiece and Owen McCarthy '20 notched another in the fourth quarter. Chris Conley '20, Jack Warren '19, Zach Kleinbaum '19 and Rob Arrix '19 scooped up three ground balls each. Noah Huizenga '18 caused three turnovers and Noah Weissmann '18 stopped 12 shots.

Paul Walter led Nazareth (3-4) with five goals. Jack Crowley and Hunter Burdick chipped in two goals and an assist apiece, and Jacob Gray contributed a goal and two helpers. Luke Longo registered two goals and seven ground balls. Seth DeLisle won 17 of 21 faceoffs and picked up nine ground balls. Jason Partridge caused five turnovers and collected five ground balls, and Alex Winkler made nine of his 16 saves in the fourth quarter.

McCollum and Bowers scored unassisted goals 1:50 apart early in the first quarter, and Henry Hill '19 found McCollum for another goal that gave Hamilton a 3-0 advantage with 5:48 left in the first.

The Golden Flyers tied the score with three goals in the last 41 seconds of the first quarter. Joe Eiskant started the rally with a man-up goal, Jack Crowley scored with 11.3 seconds remaining and Longo drew Nazareth even with 5.7 seconds to go after the Golden Flyers were awarded the faceoff win on a faceoff violation by the Continentals.

Longo put Nazareth ahead to stay just 46 seconds into the second quarter. Gray gave the Golden Flyers a two-goal cushion and Walter gave them a 6-3 lead on a man-up goal with 12:16 left in the quarter.

Bowers pulled Hamilton within two goals with 10:23 remaining in the second when he scored on a pass from Chris Conley '20. Nazareth then pulled away with the last four goals of the quarter and the first four goals of the second half. Walter scored four goals during the 8-0 run. The Continentals finished with a 40-35 shot advantage, including 16-5 in the fourth quarter.

Hamilton hosts nationally ranked No. 10 Amherst College in NESCAC action on Saturday, March 25 at 1 p.m.
