Box Score The Hamilton College men's lacrosse team closed the 2016 season with a win, rallying to beat host St. John Fisher 10-7 Tuesday night in Pittsford, N.Y. The Continentals finish the season 4-11.
Hamilton outscored the host Cardinals 5-2 in the second half, taking the lead for good less than a minute into the third quarter. St. John Fisher (7-8 overall) had taken a 5-4 lead midway through the second quarter by scoring three quick goals after Hamilton took a 4-2 lead after the opening quarter.
Clay McCollum '19 scored a team-leading three goals including the tying goal in the second quarter and the game-winner 57 seconds into the third.
The Continentals pushed their lead to 8-5 when Adam Markhoff '18 and Nate Weinrauch '17 scored 30 seconds apart. Weinrauch recorded his first collegiate two-goal game. After the Cardinals pulled to within two late in the period, Hamilton's defense held the hosts scoreless for the next 16:33 while the offense notched two more goals.
Joe Ricciuti '16 collected a career-best three assists, including the assist on McCollum's game-winning score and Markhoff's extra-man goal. He set up McCollum for a fourth-quarter goal before Pat Donahoe '16 closed out Hamilton's scoring with 5:36 left in the game.
Ricciuti opened the scoring 62 seconds into the game. The Continentals opened a 3-0 lead after goals by Donahoe and Jarett Greben '19. Christian Hansson '19 picked up his first collegiate assist on Greben's goal.
Andrew Rosso led St. John Fisher with two goals and two assists. Drew Brown scored a pair of goals 37 seconds apart, tying the score at 4-4 with his first goal then giving the Cardinals their only lead with the second.
John Schisler '17 stopped 10 shots to earn the win in goal. St. John Fisher's Tanner Swan made 13 saves.
Eric Zurmuehle '18 dominated the faceoffs, winning 16 of 21 and picking up 11 ground balls. Sellers Garrett '16, Matt Creeden '16 and Schisler each finished with four ground balls.
