Box Score The Hamilton College men's lacrosse team took host Williams College to the wire before dropping a 10-9 decision Tuesday evening in a NESCAC game played in Williamstown, Mass.
The Continentals fall to 3-8 overall and 1-7 in the NESCAC. The Ephs are now 6-5 with a 3-4 conference mark.
The game was tied seven times before the host Ephs scored the game-winning goal late in the fourth quarter then held off the visiting Continentals for the remainder of regulation.
The two teams traded goals for the entire second half: Williams took three one-goal leads and Hamilton tied the score three times before the hosts netted the game winner.
Joe Ricciuti '16 scored the last of his three goals with just under six minutes to go. Williams went ahead to stay 2:13 later and won the ensuing faceoff but turned the ball over with 1:40 left on a shot clock violation.
The Continentals maintained possession until the final seconds but their final shot at the tying goal was off target.
Ricciuti finished with three goals and opened the game's scoring 1:38 into the first quarter; that goal gave Hamilton its only lead of the day. Sam Sweet '16 led the Continentals with four points on two goals and two assists.
The Ephs took a pair of two-goal leads in the second quarter. Hamilton fought back for another tie late in the half: Sweet fed Clay McCollum '19 with just under two minutes left before halftime, then set up Ricciuti for the equalizer just four seconds before intermission.
Riley Hoffman scored the game-winning goal for Williams with 3:32 left, converting a pass from Bryson Gilbert-Bono.
Thomas Fowler's four goals for the hosts led all players and Conor Roddy added two.
Miles McCarthy earned the win in goal, stopping 12 shots. Hamilton's John Schisler '17 turned away 14 shots.
Eric Zurmuehle '18 won 15 of 20 faceoffs and picked up a game-high 10 ground balls.
The Continentals are back in action Saturday with a 1 p.m. game at Connecticut College.
