Men's lacrosse drops Florida finale

Bowdoin College scored nine straight goals in the second half and the Polar Bears went on to a 15-10 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals in Davenport, Fla., on a wet Saturday afternoon.

Hamilton (3-2, 1-2 NESCAC) is receiving votes in this week's Division III Top 20 coaches poll. The Continentals trailed 4-3 after the first quarter but held Bowdoin scoreless for about 21 minutes, including the entire second quarter. Hamilton scored four goals in the second and held an 8-4 advantage early in the third quarter before the Polar Bears rallied.

Joe Ricciuti '16 and J.D. Brachman '17 scored three goals apiece for the Continentals. Sam Sweet '16 chipped in two goals and two assists and Clay McCollum '19 added a goal and three helpers. Pat Donahoe '16 was credited with three assists and Jack Gaul '18 notched his ninth career goal.

Eric Zurmuehle '18 won 17 of 25 faceoffs and scooped up 13 ground balls for Hamilton. McCollum picked up four ground balls and Gaul had three. John Schisler '17 made 11 saves, including five in the first quarter.

For Bowdoin (3-1, 2-1), Brett Kujala found the back of the net six times and Daniel Buckman scored three goals and added three assists. Brandon Lee and Shawn Daly finished with one goal and two assists apiece, and Clayton Wright ended up with a goal and an assist. Sam Carlin won 10 faceoffs and picked up four ground balls. Adam FitzGerald led the defense with three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Peter Mumford stopped eight shots.

Sweet tied the score at 4-4 just 24 seconds into the second quarter. McCollum put the Continentals in front on his goal with 7:00 left and Sweet made it 6-4 about 1:20 later. Brachman gave Hamilton a three-goal cushion with 2:20 remaining when he scooped up a loose ball to the left of the goal and fired it past Mumford all in one motion.

Brachman scored again for an 8-4 Continentals lead with 12:13 to go in the third quarter but it was all Polar Bears the rest of the way. Bowdoin's 9-0 run turned its four-goal deficit into a 13-8 lead midway through the fourth quarter. A man-up goal by Daly 11 seconds into the fourth gave the Polar Bears the lead for good at 9-8. Bowdoin scored twice on three extra-man opportunities.
