Hamilton men's lacrosse drops NESCAC game at Bowdoin

Bowdoin College's Shawn Daly scored four goals and Peter Mumford made 14 saves as the Polar Bears posted a 12-8 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Bowdoin's Ryan Field on Saturday.

The Polar Bears (1-3, 1-2 NESCAC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first two minutes and led the whole way. Bowdoin owned a 41-30 shot advantage.

Brandon Lee chipped in two goals and two assists for the Polar Bears. Alex Osgood and Daniel Buckman added one goal and one helper apiece. David Nemirov, Mac Caputi, Matthew Crowell and Billy Valle scored one goal each. Caputi scooped up five ground balls, Ryan Monahan caused three turnovers and Robert Talcott won half of the 22 faceoffs he took.

Joe Ricciuti '16 tied a career high with three goals for Hamilton (3-2, 1-2) and John Zimmerman '15 recorded two tallies and three ground balls. Dan Cahill '17 had one goal and one assist, and J.D. Brachman '17 and Ryan McCausland '16 notched one goal apiece. Trip Connors '17 won 6 of 10 faceoffs and Eric Zurmuehle '18 won a half-dozen and picked up three ground balls.

Will Driscoll '15 made 15 saves, including six in the fourth quarter, for the Continentals. Driscoll leads the NESCAC with 76 saves and is ranked third with a .623 save percentage.

Five different Polar Bears scored in the first quarter and the hosts held a 5-3 lead after 15 minutes. Ricciuti closed out the opening quarter with a goal and opened the second with another score as the Continentals trimmed their deficit to 5-4.

Bowdoin replied with three straight goals -- two by Daly and another by Lee -- for an 8-4 lead with 7:39 left in the second quarter. Brachman made it 8-5 on his goal with 1:01 remaining in the half but Hamilton didn't get any closer than three goals the rest of the way. The Polar Bears strung together three consecutive goals again out of the break and opened up an 11-5 advantage with 3:42 to go in the third quarter.

The Continentals travel to Florida to take on Western Connecticut State University for a non-conference game on Tuesday, March 17, at Northeast Regional Park in Davenport.
