POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Hamilton College's
Grace Qian '27 led the women's tennis team in singles play at the Vassar College Fall Scramble, which was played at Josselyn Tennis Courts on Sept. 9 and 10.
In addition to the hosts, Hamilton competed against players from Army, SUNY New Paltz and New York University.
How It Happened
- Qian captured a 6-1 win at third flight singles against New Paltz and then collected a 6-3 victory at sixth flight singles against NYU. On Sunday, the rookie kept the momentum and battled for a 7-6 (7-3) win at fourth flight singles against Vassar.
- Hannah Walpole '26 started off hot with a pair of wins in first flight singles. She defeated Army's Paulina Feoli 6-2 and took a 6-1 triumph over New Paltz's Justine Stanejko.
- First-year Priyanka Challapalli '27 picked up her first collegiate win, 6-2 at second flight singles over New Paltz's Onalee Batcheller.
- Claire Cutler '24 collected a 6-3 victory at fifth flight singles against New Paltz and cruised to a 6-0 win at third flight against a Vassar opponent.
- The first flight doubles pairing of Walpole and Challapalli tallied a team-best two wins. The duo fought for a 7-6 (7-3) win against New Paltz and bounced back with a 6-2 triumph over Vassar.
Notes
- This is the second consecutive year that Hamilton has competed in the annual Vassar Fall Scramble.
- Walpole led the team with 11 singles wins last season.
- Walpole also topped Hamilton with 16 doubles victories in 2022-23. Twelve of those wins were with doubles partner Shannon Cicero '25, who tied Walpole for the overall team lead.
