WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Wesleyan University Cardinals defeated the Hamilton College Continentals 5-1 in a 2023 NESCAC Women's Tennis Championship quarterfinal played at Williams College's Torrence M. Hunt '44 Tennis Courts on Friday morning, April 28.
Nationally ranked No. 26 Hamilton (8-9 overall) was competing in this event for the first time since 2005 when it was a flighted championship. The Continentals were the seventh seed after posting a team-record four NESCAC wins this spring.
No. 5 Wesleyan (15-1) was seeded second for the conference championship. The Cardinals won the first three singles matches and clinched the decision by recording the fifth team point. The remaining three singles matches were not played to completion. Wesleyan defeated Hamilton 9-0 back on Oct. 2, 2022.
The Continentals received their team point at second flight doubles where
Shannon Cicero '25 and
Hannah Walpole '26 defeated Serim Jin and Caitlyn Ferrante, 8-6. Cicero and Walpole finished this season with a team-best doubles record of 12-6.
