No. 21 women's tennis wins home finale against No. 34 Vassar, 6-3

Holtzman '23 celebrated her last match at home by winning in singles and doubles

CLINTON, N.Y. – Three Hamilton College women's tennis players won their singles and doubles matches and the Continentals posted a 6-3 non-conference victory against Vassar College at Hamilton's Tietje Family Tennis Center on Friday, April 14.
 
The Continentals (7-6 overall) are 21st in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Top 40 Team Rankings. Hamilton travels to University of Rochester (6-8) for another non-conference match on Sunday, April 16 at 11 a.m.
 
Vassar (6-5) is 34th in the Division III Team Rankings. The Brewers have won two of three matches in the Liberty League so far this spring.
 
Lauren Holtzman '23 won both matches in the last appearance at home in her career with the Continentals. Holtzman defeated Tatum Blalock in straight sets, including 9-7 in a second set tiebreaker, at second flight singles. Holtzman improved her career singles record to 22-11 with the win against Blalock, who is ranked 22nd in Northeast Region singles.
 
Holtzman and Hannah Apsey '25 cruised to victory at first flight doubles. The duo are ranked 11th in the Northeast Region, have a 9-2 record this season and are 20-4 as a doubles pair at Hamilton.
 
Shannon Cicero '25 and Hannah Walpole '26 won in a tiebreaker at second flight doubles. They also triumphed in competitive matches at fourth and fifth flight singles. They have a 10-4 record and lead the team with those 10 wins as a doubles team. Cicero won her 17th career singles match, and Walpole leads the team with 10 singles victories this season.
 
Samantha Rainero '26 prevailed in straight sets at sixth flight singles, including 7-1 in a second set tiebreaker. Rainero has nine singles wins in her first season.
