SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Swarthmore College won four of six singles matches and edged the Hamilton College Continentals 5-4 in non-conference action at Swarthmore's Faulkner Courts on Saturday.
Nationally ranked No. 23 Hamilton dropped to 5-3 overall. No. 32 Swarthmore's only loss in seven matches is at top-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
Lauren Holtzman '23 won her singles and doubles matches for the Continentals. Holtzman defeated Kathleen Shiffer in straight sets at second flight singles for her 20
th career victory. Holtzman and
Hannah Apsey '25 outlasted Nathalie Williams and Crystal Xu in a tiebreaker at first flight doubles, and the teammates improved to 15-4 as a doubles pairing.
Samantha Rainero '26 evened her singles record at 7-7 with a win in straight sets against Lisa Messier at fifth flight.
Shannon Cicero '25 and
Hannah Walpole '26 rebounded from their only doubles loss this season with an 8-6 victory against Shiffer and Erica Stutz at second flight. Cicero and Walpole are 8-1 as a doubles team.
Hamilton's next match is at home against Division I Colgate University on Tuesday, March 28 at 4 p.m.
