Hamilton College's Hannah Apsey '25 reached the semifinals of the singles and doubles draw in the 2022 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Women's Northeast Regional Championships, which were held at Hamilton's Tietje Family Tennis Center from Sept. 23 to Sept. 25.

Injury was the only way the sophomore was going to be stopped as it turned out. Apsey and doubles partner Stephanie Pratt '25 were forced to default early on in their semifinal Sunday morning when Apsey couldn't continue. Obviously, Apsey had to default on her afternoon singles draw semifinal as well. She also made it to the singles draw semis in the 2021 Northeast Regional tournament.

Apsey and Pratt, who were seeded in the top eight in the doubles draw, kicked off the tournament with an 8-4 win against Caitlyn Avery and Angelica Aksdal-Jansen of St. Lawrence University on Friday. They defeated Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Brooke Bauer and Masha Karach by the same score in Saturday's second round. Apsey and Pratt edged fourth-seeded Tatum Blalock and Erin McCusker of Vassar College 8-6 in the quarterfinals later that same day.

Apsey was also seeded in the top eight of the singles draw. She outlasted Avery in three sets in Friday's first round by scores of 6-2, 5-7 and 10-7. Apsey had to go three sets again (6-3, 4-6, 10-7) in the second round against teammate Hannah Walpole '26 later on Friday. Walpole cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 triumph against Nazareth College's Aliya Guzman in her opening-round match.

In the third round on Saturday, Apsey defeated RPI's Lorna Flores in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Apsey then took down New York University's Anastasiia Balyk in yet another three-set marathon, 6-2, 3-6, 10-7, in the quarterfinals.

Shannon Cicero '25 advanced to the third round in the singles draw. Cicero breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 win against Union College's Marilena Karadimou and rallied for a 1-6, 6-4, 11-9 upset of top-16 seed Catherine Gamble of St. Lawrence. Cicero extended one of the top eight seeds to three sets before falling in the third round.

The Continentals travel to RPI for a dual match on Saturday, Oct. 1 at noon.
