Hamilton College finished second in the men's varsity eight race at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Regatta on Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday.

Hamilton, which is ranked fifth in the Division III Top 15 coaches poll, posted a time of 6:04.35 on the 2,000-meter course. Top-ranked Bates College took first place (6:02.2), No. 6 WPI was third (6:07.19), No. 11 Washington College landed in fourth place (6:11.55) and No. 12 Rochester Institute of Technology ended up fifth (6:19.5).

Racing conditions included a consistent cross/tailwind at the start with a steady 10 to 15 mph tailwind at the finish, and some chop but good water overall. Temperatures were in the 40s and 50s.

Hamilton finished third in the second varsity eight race with a time of 6:36.93, which was a little more than 23 seconds behind the winning crew from Bates. The Continentals also finished third in the third varsity eight race in 6:58.68 – more than 28 seconds behind race winner Bates.

Hamilton hosts University of Rochester, Smith College, St. Lawrence University and Wellesley for a regatta from the Continentals' new boathouse on the Erie Canal on Saturday, April 16 starting at noon.

"It was another good test for our crews to see top-ranked teams in the early season, with Bates setting the standard," Head Coach
James Lister said. "We made progress from last week with our race plan execution, and we have adjustments to make for our home opener on Saturday. We are excited to host our first race at the new boathouse."
