Hamilton College's
Hannah Apsey '25 advanced to the semifinal match of the singles draw at the 2021 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Women's Division III Northeast Regional Championships on Sunday at William Smith College in Geneva, N.Y.
On Saturday, Apsey defeated New Jersey City's Giada Zorzan 6-4 and 6-0. She dropped her first set 3-6 to New York University's Jimena Menendez but came back 6-4 and 10-7 to win.
Apsey, who is seeded in the 5-8 range, came back again in both her Sunday matches. The first was against Rensselaer Poilytechnic Institute's Rani Jones and after Apsey lost the first set 3-6, she won 7-5 and 6-1 to move onto the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinal match Apsey lost the first set 4-6 to Skidmore College's Lily Feldman, and then rebounded to win 6-2 and 6-4. She will face the No. 1 seed Carol Plakk from NYU on Monday morning in the semifinals.
Apsey teamed up with
Lauren Holtzman '23 to win their first round doubles match 8-0 against Rochester Institute of Technology's Gabby Donohue and Jacqueline Drozd on Saturday. They went on to an 8-4 victory over Skidmore's Katherine Almquist and Ella Provost later that same day.
The duo went 1-1 on Sunday. Apsey and Holtzman edged RPI's Rani Jones and Alex Mednikova 8-6 in the quarterfinals, but lost in the semifinal round to NYU's Dakota Fordham and Plakk, 8-1.
