Case Western Reserve University's Madeleine Paolucci defeated Hamilton College's
Sophia Aulicino '21 in the first round of the singles bracket during the individual portion of the 2021 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships at Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Friday morning.
The scores of the match were 6-2, 6-0. According to match statistics from the NCAA, Aulicino was perfect on all 32 of her first serves, saved 3 of 8 break points and won 4 of 6 of her second-return points. She is ranked No. 8 among singles players in the Northeast Region by the NCAA, and Paolucci is the second-ranked singles player in the Central Region. Aulicino and Paolucci were two of 32 athletes competing in the singles draw.
Aulicino is the first Hamilton tennis player – male or female – to make an appearance in the NCAA individual or team championships. Aulicino, who was voted to the all-NESCAC team in May, finished her Hamilton career with a singles record of 33-16.
