The Hamilton College varsity eight finished in 23rd place out of 41 entries in the Collegiate Eights race at the 2021 Head of the Charles Regatta in Cambridge, Mass., on Sunday afternoon.
The Continentals posted a time of 15:57.598 and Hamilton's second varsity eight crossed the finish line in 30th place in 16:27.213. Massachusetts Institute of Technology took the top spot in 14:54.924.
"Good to finally race at the Charles after a long absence from participation," Head Coach
James Lister said. "Both boats were full of rowers never having raced at this large event. Rowers raced with good attack."
Nine entries came from other NESCAC schools. Bates College was fifth in 15:12.441 and Williams College was close behind in sixth place with a time of 15:15.471.
"Overall, I am excited that the rowers got to race one of the more exciting races with a lot of teams from around the country and a tough race course with many bridges and big turns," Lister said. "Last fall was spent training on land all semester, so to have our season back was really nice. We were able to enjoy our sport on a big stage on the Charles River."
The Continentals close out the fall schedule with the Head of the Fish Regatta in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., on Saturday morning, Oct. 30.
"Although finishes were closer to some of our peer programs, the team is motivated to work towards a higher standard that they hold themselves to," Lister said. "We have another opportunity next week at the Head of the Fish in Saratoga Springs to close that gap."
