Box Score Hamilton College scored twice in the first period and the Continentals held on for a 2-2 tie against the Connecticut College Camels in a NESCAC game played at Conn. College's Dayton Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Hamilton (5-6-3, 4-4-1 NESCAC) held a 37-28 shot advantage as the Continentals have just one loss in their last six games. Hamilton returns to Russell Sage Rink for the first time since Dec. 7 with a conference clash against Amherst College on Friday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m.
The Camels (6-7-1, 2-5-1) killed all four of the Continentals' four power-play chances. Paul Capozzi and Steven Senese posted a goal and an assist apiece and Connor Rodericks made 35 saves.
Tommy Tanner '23 gave Hamilton a 1-0 lead with his first collegiate goal 2:04 into the first period. Playing without a stick behind the goal, Sterling Bray '20 kicked the puck over to Nick Hawkins '23, and he slid a pass to a wide open Tanner in the slot. The Continentals hit two posts and outshot Conn. College 9-3 in the first 20 minutes.
Nick Ursitti '20 made it a two-goal cushion with 51.1 seconds left in the first. Josh Labonte '21 slid a pass behind the net to Sean Allen '21 and the junior passed the puck up and along the left boards to a breaking Ursitti for the finish. Ursitti, who recorded his 50th career point on Friday night in a 4-1 win at Tufts, is tied for the team lead with five goals and tops the Continentals with eight points.
The Camels responded in the second period. Capozzi found the back of the net at 4:51 of the period and Senese scored on the power play 89 seconds later.
Hamilton nearly broke the tie in the third period but a shot from the left corner by Labonte hit the post. Anthony Tirabassi '20 made four of his 26 saves in the five-minute overtime period for the Continentals. Tirabassi has a 2.25 goals against average and .912 save percentage in seven NESCAC starts.
