The Hamilton College Continentals split a non-conference doubleheader against the Utica College Pioneers at Utica's Greenman Field on Thursday.

Hamilton (26-9 overall) won the opener 3-1, but Utica took the second game by a score of 5-2.

The Continentals wrap up the regular season with a non-conference doubleheader against SUNY Polytechnic on Wednesday, May 1 at Hamilton's Loop Road Softball Complex. The first pitch of Game 1 is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Game One: Hamilton 3, Utica 1

The Continentals outhit the Pioneers 12 to 4 and built a three-run lead with one run in the second inning and two more in the third. Utica (15-19) scored its run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Kendall Searcy '20 kicked off the top of the second with a single and advanced to second base on an error. Searcy came around to score after back-to-back singles by Helen Lin '19 and Liz Brautigam '19 and a fielder's choice off the bat of Jodi Weiss '19.

Vicky Dunn '22 led off the third inning with a single and immediately swiped second base. Ashleah Yzaguirre '19 singled to put runners on first and second before Dunn and Yzaguirre advanced on a double steal. Dunn scored on a ground ball by Emily Fraser '20 and Searcy followed with the 100th hit of her collegiate career, a single to center field that scored Yzaguirre.

After allowing a single to the first batter she faced, Morgan Hartranft '22 retired 13 straight. In the midst of the fifth inning, Utica's Jacqueline Aronin hit a one-out single and scored on Emily Joss' double to right-center field that broke up the shutout.

Hartranft pitched a complete game for her 12th win of the season, tying the current program record held by Karen Pogonowski '02. The first-year hurler's five strikeouts increased the pitching staff's season total to 149 to break the program record. The previous record was 145 strikeouts during the 2012 season.

Searcy led Hamilton at the plate, finishing 3-for-4. Dunn, Yzaguirre and Brautigam added two hits each and Dunn stole two bases.

Game Two: Utica 5, Hamilton 2

Utica built a 4-0 lead by scoring one run in the second inning, one in the third and two in the fourth. The Pioneers tacked on one more run in the bottom of the sixth.

Hamilton had a chance to put runs on the board in the top of the third when Shelby McVey '22 blasted a one-out double and advanced to third on a single by Caitlin Berreitter '20, but both runners were left stranded after back-to-back groundouts.

The Continentals scored two runs in the sixth inning on three hits and a walk. Fraser earned a one-out walk and came around to score after three straight singles by Searcy, Anna Rasmussen '21 and Courtney Cardea '22. Lin then hit a comebacker to the pitcher and an error allowed Searcy to score from third.

Berreitter went 2-for-4 and Cardea finished 2-for-3. Yzaguirre added one hit to the effort in the 133rd game of her Hamilton career, breaking the 5-year-old program record.
