Softball wraps up non-conference slate at Rochester

Dyche ’28 and Abraham ’29 homered during game two

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The University of Rochester Yellowjackets won both games of a non-conference doubleheader against the Hamilton College Continentals at Rochester's Southside Field on Thursday, April 30.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (9-26 overall) split a NESCAC doubleheader against Amherst last time out on Saturday, April 25.
  • Rochester (29-7), which is 11-1 in Liberty League play, improved to 14-2 at home this season.

Game 1 (Rochester wins, 7-2)

How It Happened

  • The Yellowjackets scored four runs in the bottom of the first highlighted by a two-run single by Marie Kinchington.
  • A two-run double in the bottom of the third by Ally Kim extended Rochester's lead to 7-0.
  • Nikki Dyche '28 led off the top of the sixth with a single up the middle, then Kelsey Vadnais '28 ripped a double to center field and Alison Zorn '26 drew a walk with one out to load the bases for the Continentals. Dyche tagged up and scored on a sacrifice fly by Lydia Mirabito '26, then Aubrey Purvis '27 drove in Vadnais with a single up the middle to make it 7-2.

Notes

  • Dyche recorded two hits and one run, while Hadley Rogers '26 went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a walk.
  • Alexis Mayer '26 drew two walks for Hamilton.
  • Purvis recorded three strikeouts in four innings pitched in relief.
  • Kim finished with two walks, two runs, one hit and two runs batted in.
  • Rochester's Julianna Lyons added two hits, one walk, one run and one RBI.
  • Molly Broccolo improved to 16-4 this season in the circle after recording six strikeouts in four scoreless innings.
 

Game 2 (Rochester wins, 7-4)

How it Happened

  • Rochester's Riley Laygo drove in a run with a double and scored in the bottom of the first for a 2-0 lead.
  • Hamilton grabbed the lead with three runs in the top of the second. Dyche led off the inning with a home run to right field, the first of her career.  Miranda Mosqueda '28 drew a walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a single by Zorn, and swiped home on a double steal and tied the game at 2-2.
  • Sofia Santana '26 moved Zorn to third with an infield single, and Zorn scored on a wild pitch during the next at bat to make it 3-2.
  • Kim delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the second, and Jensen Sminchak drew a bases loaded walk with two outs to put the Yellowjackets back in front, 4-3.
  • Rochester added a run in the bottom of the third for a 5-3 lead.
  • Juliana Abraham '29 lifted a homerun over the right field wall to leadoff the top of the fourth and cut the deficit to 5-4.
  • Kim tripled down the right field line and stole home in the bottom of the fifth, and Lyons drove in a run with a sacrifice bunt as the Yellowjackets increased their advantage to 7-4.

Notes

  • Dyche registered her first career home run and 11th extra-base hit of the season. She leads the Continentals with 20 runs scored and 17 runs batted in.
  • Mayer, Gaby Guerra '27, and Sammy Morris '29 each added a hit for Hamilton.
  • Hamilton recorded two home runs in one game for the second time this season.
  • Yael Everett '28 tossed 5.2 innings in relief for the Continentals.
  • Maddie White collected the win for Rochester after recording four strikeouts in four innings.
  • Kim went 3-for-5 with three runs and one RBI.

Next Game

Hamilton will close the season with a doubleheader at home against No. 11 Tufts University on Saturday, May 2. First pitch for game one will be at 11 a.m.
