Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Hamilton College split a pair of non-conference games in its first day competing in Florida on Sunday at Legends Way Field in Clermont.

The Continentals (3-1 overall) fell 7-3 to Tufts University (3-0) in game one before rebounding with a 12-4 victory over Farmingdale State College (0-3) in the nightcap. Hamilton and Tufts both compete in the NESCAC but the Continentals are in the West Division and the Jumbos are in the East.

Hamilton is right back on the diamond with a doubleheader on Monday, facing Allegheny College at noon and Lawrence University at 2 p.m. Both games will be played at Hancock Park in Clermont.

Hamilton 12, Farmingdale State 4

Hamilton racked up 16 hits and drove in 10 runs. Caitlin Berreitter '20 and Courtney Cardea '22 both had two hits with doubles. Kendall Searcy '20 went 2-for-3 and scored two runs. Helen Lin '19 and Ashleah Yzaguirre '19 both went 2-for-5 and Yzaguirre hit a two-run homer. Kiana Arcayena '22 batted in two runs with a single and a sacrifice fly.

Dez DePaulis '19 picked up her first victory of the season as she worked through 5.1 innings, giving up two runs on four hits. She walked two batters with one strikeout.

Berreitter gave Hamilton an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when she led off with a single to right-center field and stole second base before Shelby McVey '22 walked. Berreitter scored when Emily Fraser '20 knocked a long single to the fence in left center.

Hamilton maintained a one-run lead until they ignited with a five-run fifth off five hits and one error. Ellie Demaree '22 led off with a line-drive single to center field, stole second and scored when Berreitter laced a double to left center. Two batters later, Fraser reached on a fielder's choice when the Farmingdale defense threw out Berreitter at second. Yzaguirre immediately followed with a two-out blast over the fence in left center. Lin followed with a single, Searcy was hit by a pitch and Lin scored on Arcayena's single down the right-field line. Searcy scored the final run of the inning as Cardea reached first base on an error.

Farmingdale scored twice in both the sixth and seventh innings, but the Continentals exploded for six runs in the top half of the seventh and secured their third victory of the season.

Tufts 7, Hamilton 3

Fraser led Hamilton by going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases. Berreitter, Liz Brautigam '19 and Lin accounted for the Continentals' other three hits, and Searcy earned two walks. Morgan Hartranft '22 gave up two hits, three walks and two runs in three innings. Claire O'Brien '21 completed the game by giving up two earned runs on two hits and four walks.

The Continentals made quick work of the Jumbos in the top of the first. Emma Della Volpe led off with a walk and Maggie Lebinski struck out swinging. Kristen Caporelli then grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning. Hamilton's Fraser hit a two-out single up the middle in the bottom of the first and stole second base but was left stranded after a flyout to left field.

Tufts scored twice in the second with back-to-back walks and a bases-clearing triple to right-center field, and added four more runs in the fourth on one hit and three errors. Tufts' Christian Cain knocked in another run in the fifth when she tripled down the right-field line, scoring Sophia Molia from first.

Hamilton broke the shutout in the bottom half of the fourth. Lin hit a two-out single to left field, Searcy walked and Brautigam was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Head coach Stephaine Hartquist then called for Anna Rasmussen '21 to pinch hit and she delivered by drawing a walk on a full count and forcing in a run. The Continentals added two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but came up short.
