Box Score Williams College's Isabel Perry scored with 6:23 left in the second sudden-victory overtime period and lifted the Ephs to a 2-1 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Williams' Williamson Field on Tuesday night.
A Hamilton player was whistled for a false start on a penalty corner with 6:36 remaining in the second extra period and left the Continentals with two defenders in the cage with goaltender Maggie Reville '22 for another corner. Perry inserted the ball and Elizabeth Welch smacked a shot that Reville knocked down. The ball squirted out to Reville's right and she dove on the turf to stop Perry from scoring on the rebound. Perry's first shot hit Reville's glove but the second one snuck past her and into the cage. Welch nearly notched the game-winner about 70 seconds prior to Perry's heroics but her shot clanged off the right post.
Hamilton (3-5, 1-4 NESCAC) is 0-3 this fall in games that go to overtime. The Continentals travel to nationally ranked No. 8 Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, for another conference contest on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 11 a.m. It will be Hamilton's third straight game against a ranked opponent.
The 11th-ranked Ephs (8-1, 5-1) have won eight in a row since a season-opening loss to Tufts University. Williams held a commanding 31-5 shot advantage and the Ephs were awarded 18 penalty corners to three for the Continentals.
Reville was spectacular all night in goal and finished with a career-high 22 saves. It's the most saves by a Hamilton goaltender since Victoria Trentini '15 made 29 stops against Amherst College on Sept. 22, 2012.
Williams took a 1-0 lead with 3:19 to go in the second quarter. Reville came off her line to meet a bouncing ball and kicked it but didn't get all of it. Simone Veale collected the loose ball and got off a soft shot that Reville tried to stop with her left foot. The ball deflected off her foot and into the cage. The Ephs took their 1-0 edge into the break.
The Continentals tied the score with 5:03 left in the third quarter on the first shot that was credited to them all night. Sarah Pierpont '21 inserted the ball on a penalty corner to Lizzie Clarke '20 and Clarke's slap shot was blocked by a defender. Michaela Giuttari '20 batted the ball out of the air and into the cage for her 51st career goal, which puts her in a tie with Eva Rosencrans '17 for the program record.
Later in the third, Reville kept the score tied by making a diving save to her right on an elevated shot off a penalty stroke. Reville was at it again with just under a minute remaining in the fourth quarter when she turned away two shots, another was blocked and Kiera Wax '23 was credited with a defensive save on another. Cat Donahue '21 had another defensive save for Hamilton early in the third quarter.
