Box Score Fifteen Amherst College players scored at least one goal and the Mammoths posted a 25-5 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Amherst's Pratt Field at Lehrman Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Chris Conley '20 paced Hamilton (1-6, 0-4 NESCAC) with a goal, an assist and three ground balls. Zach Larsen '19 and Clay McCollum '19 chipped in one goal and one assist apiece, and both Chad Morse '19 and Henry Hill '19 scored a goal. Matt Greene '18 and Andrej Bogdanovics '19 caused two turnovers apiece, and Mike Connolly '21 won six faceoffs. Kyle Gately '20 made 16 saves and Max Scheidl '21 stopped both shots he faced in three-plus minutes in goal.
Evan Wolf led the nationally ranked No. 6 Mammoths (6-1, 3-0) with three goals and three assists. Jon Coffey finished with three goals and a helper, and Matt Solberg tallied three goals. Drew Kelleher won 12 of 13 faceoffs and scooped up five ground balls, and Dylan Finazzo won 10 of 13 faceoffs. Grant Chryssicas led the defense with a game-high three caused turnovers and the trio of Cameron Mitchell, Chad Simons and Gib Versfeld combined to turn away five shots.
Amherst took a 1-0 lead 61 seconds into the first quarter but the Continentals tied it on Conley's 13th goal this season off a pass from Larsen with 12:51 left in the first. The Mammoths went in front for good by scoring the next five goals and they led 5-1 at the end of the quarter. A goal by Brett Inglesby gave Amherst a 6-1 cushion 37 seconds into the second quarter.
Hamilton responded with goals by McCollum and Morse (his team-high 15th) 1:17 apart and pulled the Continentals within 6-3 with 9:02 remaining. The Mammoths countered with six straight goals by six different players in less than five minutes. Zach Schwartz made it 12-3 on his goal with 2:11 to go in the half.
Hill sent Hamilton into the break on a high note on his 11th goal this year with 29 seconds left in the quarter, and the Continentals trailed 12-4 at the half. Amherst clinched the win by scoring the first eight goals in the third for a 20-4 advantage with 6:56 remaining in the quarter.
Hamilton is on the road for the sixth game in a row on Tuesday, March 27 when they travel to St. John Fisher College for a non-conference contest at 5 p.m.
