Box Score Bowdoin College scored six goals in the first quarter and the Polar Bears posted a 13-5 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Northeast Regional Park in Davenport, Fla., on Saturday afternoon.
Henry Hill '19 led Hamilton (1-4, 0-3 NESCAC) with two goals and Brock Bowers '20 recorded one goal and one assist. Rob Arrix '19 and Brendan Burke '18 had two caused turnovers apiece. Burke also had an assist and Arrix picked up two ground balls.
Austin Scronce '21 came off the bench in the final two quarters for his first collegiate appearance and led the Continentals' defense with four ground balls and one caused turnover. Fellow first-year Max Scheidl '21 also made his collegiate debut in goal and made six saves. Scheidl played the last 30 minutes between the pipes, giving up just two goals on eight shots.
Bowdoin (2-2, 1-2) was guided by Daniel Buckman's two goals and two assists. Sam Carlin won 13 of 16 faceoffs and scooped up nine ground balls. Sam Denious had two caused turnovers and two ground balls. John Young recorded 45 minutes in goal and stopped seven of the nine shots that were on goal. Jack O'Connor wrapped up the final quarter with three saves and three goals against.
Burke found Chad Morse '19 just over three minutes after the opening faceoff to get Hamilton within one goal at 2-1, but the Polar Bears surged with eight unanswered goals starting at the 11:02 mark in the first quarter and ending with 7:41 remaining in the second.
Hill stopped Bowdoin's run off a feed from Bowers with 6:54 left in the second quarter to make the score 10-2, but Jeff Powers responded with a man-up goal 37 seconds later to maintain the Polar Bears' nine-goal advantage at the half.
Hamilton dominated the third quarter with a 15-4 shot advantage but Bowdoin's Young kept all four shots on net out of the nylon. Scheidl gave the Continentals a chance to make a run in the third quarter by denying all three shots fired his way.
Hill scored his second of the game with 8:16 remaining in the fourth quarter, and Adam Markhoff '18 picked up the fifth goal of his career at the same time that Ryan Friedman '21 recorded his first collegiate assist with 2:51 left.
Hamilton returns to New York next week for a non-conference game at Nazareth College on Wednesday, March 21 at 4 p.m.
