Hamilton College split a pair of non-conference games on Wednesday in Clermont, Fla. The Continentals posted a 17-10 win over Bethel University (Minn.) and lost 2-1 to SUNY Geneseo.

Hamilton (2-2 overall) meets Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at 11 a.m. and Lake Forest at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 15 at Minneola Athletic Complex in Minneola, Fla.

Game One: Hamilton 17, Bethel 10

Caroline Chivily '19 and Emily Fraser '20 led Hamilton at the plate, both contributing four of Hamilton's 22 hits. Caitlin Berreitter '20 went 3-for-4 and Liz Brautigam '19 and Phoebe Collins '18 went 3-for-5. Berreitter and Chivily scored four runs apiece. Fraser drove in four runs and both Kendall Searcy '20 and Sophia Cerreta '20 knocked in three.

Bethel (5-5) scored two runs off three hits in the top of the first inning. Wendy Roberts hit a two-out solo home run to start, Hannah Schmidt followed with a single and Amanda Gemuenden hit an RBI-triple to right-center field.

Hamilton quickly responded with two runs in the bottom half of the first. Berreitter and Chivily hit back-to-back singles to the outfield grass. Searcy reached first and loaded the bases after the Bethel defense failed to get the lead runner at third. Fraser then ripped a single into right field for two runs.

Both teams had two hits in the second inning, but Bethel took the one-run lead with three runs compared to Hamilton's two. Cerreta led off Hamilton's half of the inning with a single to second and she advanced to third after back-to-back groundouts. Berreitter put runners on the corners after being hit by a pitch, Chivily scored Cerreta with an infield single, Berreitter and Chivily put together a double steal and a Bethel error allowed Berreitter to score.

Despite Bethel's five home runs, the Continentals pulled away by scoring at least one run in every inning.

Hamilton's bats ignited with a six-run fifth inning. The Continentals loaded the bases with three straight singles by Collins, Berreitter and Chivily. Searcy then launched a bases-clearing double to the right-center field fence, Fraser lined a single up the middle to put runners on the corners, and Brautigam followed with an RBI double to left center. Bethel attempted to chill the Continental bats with a pitching change, but Ashleah Yzaguirre '19 and Cerreta drove in two more runs.

Bethel's Jana Roste hit her second home run of the game in the top half of the sixth inning, but Hamilton added four more runs in the bottom half with Fraser, Brautigam and Cerreta (two) driving in runs.

The Continentals defense left a Bethel runner stranded at third base in the seventh inning as they kept the Royals scoreless for the win. Dez DePaulis '19 pitched the middle three innings and picked up the win.

Game Two: Geneseo 2, Hamilton 1

Hamilton took a 1-0 lead in the first – the Continentals have scored at least one run in the first inning in all four games so far this season – and held the Knights scoreless through six innings.

Berreitter led off the game by reaching first base on a muffed throw and moved to third on a Chivily sacrifice bunt and a single by Searcy to center field. Fraser then hit a deep sacrifice fly to score Berreitter.

Geneseo (7-1) responded by loading the bases in the bottom half of the first, but Claire O'Brien '21 maintained her composure. The first-year pitcher struck out two batters and forced an infield popup to leave all three runners stranded.

Yzaguirre ripped a single down the left field line to start the seventh inning and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Jodi Weiss '19 and a single by Helen Lin '19. Cerreta hammered a line drive to the right side but the ball went right into the glove of Geneseo first baseman Nicole Fyvie and she stepped on first base for the second and third outs of the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh the Knights drew a pinch-hit walk and laid down a bunt single. Alyssa Persich drove in both runners with a walk-off double to the right-center field gap for the win.

O'Brien pitched a complete game, striking out six while allowing six hits and three walks. Searcy led the offense with a double and a single.
