No. 9 Men's hoops hangs 125 points on York in non-conference win

Hamilton College opened with a 14-0 run and the nationally ranked No. 9 Continentals went on to a 125-65 rout against the York College (N.Y.) Cardinals in the Hamilton Invitational Classic at Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Sunday afternoon.

The Continentals (2-0 overall) shot 59.5 percent from the floor including 17 of 32 (53.1 percent) from 3-point range. Hamilton enjoyed a commanding 58-30 advantage on the glass, and York shot just 31.6 percent from the field.

Kena Gilmour '20 helped lead the Continentals with 28 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots in just 18 minutes. Michael Grassey '19 chipped in 22 points on 6 of 7 shooting from beyond the arc and added nine boards and four assists. Sayo Denloye '20 dropped in a career-high 17 points off the bench and handed out four assists and Tim Doyle '19 contributed 15 points and four assists.

The Hamilton reserves were very productive against the Cardinals. Mark Lutz '20 scored 11 points, Eric Anderson '22 scored eight and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, and Mike McEneney '21 pulled down nine rebounds and blocked two shots.

Devine Chisholm paced York (3-2) with 17 points off the bench. Darin Dove tallied 12 points and Akil Vaughn corralled eight boards. Dove scored 10 of his 12 points in the second half.

Grassey and Doyle started the game with 3-pointers and Gilmour made it 9-0 with an old-fashioned, 3-point play. Gilmour added another basket in the paint and Grassey gave the Continentals a 14-0 cushion less than three minutes in.

The Cardinals didn't get closer than nine points the rest of the afternoon. A 3-pointer by Gilmour put Hamilton up by 20 at 27-7 with 14:12 left and Gilmour swished another shot from long range that made it a 32-point lead at 43-11 with 11:29 remaining. The Continentals took a 63-37 advantage into the break as Gilmour poured in 25 points in the opening 20 minutes.

Hamilton coasted in the second half and scored its 100th point with 9:51 still to play on a 3-pointer by Elliott Tirbaso '22. The program record for points in a game is 134 set during the 1992-93 season.

The Continentals travel to Bard College for another non-conference game on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m.
