Keyhani ’26 sinks last-second basket in men’s basketball win at Geneseo

The Continentals erased an eight-point deficit with under two minutes remaining

GENESEO, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Garret Keyhani '26 scored 14 points, including the game-winning basket with 0.6 seconds remaining, and the Continentals secured a 74-73 comeback win over the SUNY Geneseo Knights inside Geneseo's Schrader Gym on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (5-12 overall) played its final non-conference game of the season and collected its first road win.
  • The Knights (8-7), who are 4-2 in the Empire 8 Conference, were coming off an overtime win at Utica University on Jan. 17.

How It Happened

  • Hamilton trailed Geneseo 71-63 with 1:52 remaining in the second half. Nate Raub '27 converted an offensive rebound putback with 1:40 left, and Keyhani came up with a block and a defensive rebound at the other end that led to a quick transition basket for Jack Stowell '27 at the 1:18 mark. Following a missed Geneseo free throw, Matthew Rideout '27 drove to the basket and finished a contested layup that cut the Continentals' deficit to 71-69 with 50 seconds remaining.
  • Geneseo's Landon Brunken sank two free throws with 35 seconds to go and pushed the lead back to four, but Raub swished a 3-pointer from the top of the key at the other end and made it a one-point game. Hamilton regained possession after Geneseo missed the front end of a one-and-one.
  • With four seconds remaining, Keyhani caught the ball near the top of the key, drove to his right and banked in a floater that gave the Continentals their first lead of the second half. The Knights inbounded the ball following a timeout, but were unable to get a shot off.
  • Geneseo held a 10-7 lead with 15:42 remaining in the first half before the Continentals went on an 11-2 run and took their largest lead of six points at 18-12 with 11:41 left.
  • Following a 3-pointer by Rideout with 9:06 left that made it 21-16, the Knights swung the momentum with a 13-0 run for a 29-21 advantage with 5:24 remaining.
  • Stowell drilled a 3-pointer that ended the run and cut Hamilton's deficit to 31-29 with an old-fashioned 3-point play at the 2:38 mark. Keyhani scored the final basket of the first half with 15 seconds remaining, and Geneseo held a 38-35 edge at the intermission.
  • The Knights' lead moved between one and six points the first seven minutes of the second half until Rideout scored five straight via a pull-up jumper from the right side and a triple from the top of the key that tied the score at 49-49 with 12:31 remaining.
  • Geneseo used an 11-2 burst with the help of nine points from Trevor Hofer and took its largest lead of nine at 60-51 with 9:49 left. Hamilton responded with a 6-0 run that made it a one-possession game at the 8:19 mark.
  • The Knights' Justin Yearwood scored four straight points and Jackson Casey sank a 3-pointer at the 3:03 mark following a layup by Hamilton's Jalen Reese '27 that extended Geneseo's lead to 69-61.
  • The Continentals shot 58.62% from the field during the second half, including 15-of-22 (68.18%) on 2-pointers, and converted seven of their final nine shot attempts.
