Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Samuel O'Reilly '29

Men's basketball falls at undefeated Trinity, Rideout '27 scores 14 again

Junior guard poured in all of his points in the first half for the Continentals

HARTFORD, Conn. – Trinity College took control with a 15-0 surge at the end of the first half and the Bantams remained undefeated with a 77-48 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals inside Trinity's Ray Oosting Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 17.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (4-12, 1-2 NESCAC) also fell 69-57 at Wesleyan University on Jan. 16.
  • Trinity (16-0, 4-0) is ranked No. 1 in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll for Week 6 of the regular season.

How It Happened

  • With 11:15 to go in the first half, the Continentals' Jalen Reese '27 swung the ball to Matthew Rideout '27 on the wing and Rideout splashed a 3-pointer while getting fouled. He hit the free throw and completed the rare four-point play for a 9-5 lead.
  • The Bantams quickly responded with a 9-0 run capped by Paul Jordan, who grabbed an offensive rebound and scored a putback jumper with 8:16 to go for a 14-9 Trinity lead.
  • Rideout picked up the ball at the top of the key and splashed another 3-pointer for a 20-18 Hamilton edge with 5:51 left. It turned out to be the last lead of the day for the Continentals.
  • After Rideout's basket, Trinity ended the half with its dominating run. A giveaway with seconds remaining allowed Jarrel Okorougo to chuck up a desperation half-court shot, but Drew Lazarre caught the ball off the miss and put it back for a layup buzzer-beater that capped the spurt and made it 33-20.
  • The Bantams didn't slow down in the second half. Henry Vetter made back-to-back three-pointers on consecutive possessions for a 41-21 advantage three minutes into the half.
  • Hamilton didn't get closer than 12 points after the break. Femi Ogundijo '29 hit a pair of free throws at the end of the game and tied a season high with four points.
