Box Score Hamilton College's Matt Cerveny '18 scored two goals and the Continentals played to a 3-3 non-conference tie with the SUNY Oswego Lakers at Hamilton's rain-soaked Love Field on Tuesday.
The Continentals were playing their first game of 2017 after they went 10-7-1 and reached the NESCAC championship final a year ago. The multi-goal game is the first for Cerveny, who now has three goals in his Hamilton career. Linds Cadwell '20 made three saves in his fourth career start.
Oswego (2-0-1 overall) has already scored 14 goals in just three games. Hassan Musa led the offense with a goal and an assist and tops the team with four goals and 11 points. Evan Bogucki, who posted a shutout in his previous start, stopped one shot.
Today's game marked the first tie between the teams since 2010 and is the sixth in the all-time series.
The Continentals rallied from a pair of one-goal deficits. Eli Lichtman '18 tied the score at 3-3 with his first career goal on a header from about six yards out in the 86th minute. Quinn O'Malley '18 set up Lichtman for the game-tying score.
Cerveny gave Hamilton a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute on a blast from just outside the 18-yard box after he received a pass from Jeffrey Plump '20.
Logan Sperano tied the score just 2:30 later when he scored on a one-timer from close range after Cadwell made a great save on a shot by Musa. Conor Vaughn put the visitors up by a goal in the 35th minute when he scored from around six yards out after Thomas Osborn sent a long pass into the box.
Cerveny wrapped up a wild 10 minutes with his second goal of the day in the 38th minute. Greg Milnarik '19 sent a lofted ball towards Aidan Wood '20, who flicked a header on to Cerveny for a one-timer from near the penalty kick area. The score was tied 2-2 at the half.
The score remained 2-2 until 5:48 left in regulation. Jason Siracuse sent a hard, bouncing pass to Musa and he hammered a one-timer from about 12 yards out that gave the Lakers the lead for 81 seconds until Lichtman's heroics.
Oswego's Connor Lunduski had the best chance for a game-winner in overtime as his shot banged off the right post with a little less than two minutes to go in the second extra period.
The Continentals host Bates for their first NESCAC game of the season on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 1:30 p.m. The contest will benefit the Go4theGoal Foundation in the organization's fight against pediatric cancer.
