CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Troy Miller '28 recorded his second career brace and the Continentals posted a 2-0 win over the Utica University Pioneers at Hamilton's Love Field on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 5.

Season Update

  • Hamilton posted a shutout win in its opener for the second straight year.
  • Utica (1-1 overall) bested SUNY Canton 1-0 in its season opener on Tuesday, Sept. 1.

 How It Happened

  • After outshooting the Pioneers 8-3 in the opening half, Hamilton broke through in the 51st minute. Sean Curran '29 fought through a crowd of defenders to maintain possession at the top of the box, then slipped a diagonal pass to the right side for Miller, who ran onto the ball and fired a right-footed shot into the right side of the net.
  • The Continentals doubled their lead less than five minutes later. Adam Molusis '27 lofted a pass into the left side of the box for Oliver Mylon '29, who redirected the ball across the face of goal toward the far post. Miller rose above his defender and thumped a header that bounced inside the six-yard box before settling in the right corner of the net.
  • Bashir Abou '30 nearly added a third goal in the 75th minute, but his header off a corner kick was cleared off the goal line by a Utica defender.
  • The Continentals generated several dangerous chances in the opening 15 minutes. In the fourth minute, Miller's first shot of the game from the right side of the box beat the diving goalkeeper but caromed off the left post.
  • At the 7:35 mark, Curran headed a cross back towards the middle of the box for Patrick Ferrare '27, who turned away from his defender and placed a low shot towards the right corner that beat the goalkeeper but was saved by a Utica defender.
  • Hamilton nearly found the breakthrough again in the 15th minute, as Aidan Falvey '28 pounced on a blocked free kick and sent a right-footed shot off the crossbar.
