Men's soccer falls to No. 10 Williams in NESCAC opener

Mylon ’29 registered his first career goal for the Continentals

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Williams College Ephs defeated the Hamilton College Continentals 4-1 at Williams' Cole Field on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (1-1 overall) played its first NESCAC match after besting Utica University at home in its season opener on Saturday, Sept. 5.
  • The Ephs (2-0) claimed a 3-2 win over NESCAC foe Bates in their season opener on Saturday.

How It Happened

  • The Ephs opened the scoring just under 10 minutes into the first half. Spencer Mix made a long run up the right side on a counterattack, cut to his right just outside the 18-yard box and fired a low shot that struck the left post and bounced into the net.
  • Williams doubled its lead in the 25th minute when Lorcan Mitchell volleyed home a rebound attempt from just outside the six-yard box.
  • Hamilton's Oliver Mylon '29 ripped a right-footed shot from the left side of the box in the 26th minute that curled just wide of the right post.
  • With 39:33 remaining in the second half, Mylon lifted a cross towards the back post for Brady Hyland '29, who redirected it with a powerful header that was saved by Williams' Kai Darrell.
  • Williams' JJ Ruehlemann headed home at the back post following a long throw in, increasing the Ephs' lead to 3-0 with 35:56 remaining.
  • Hamilton got on the board with just under 25 minutes remaining. Zach Tracy '28 won the ball in the middle of the attacking third, carried it to his right and slipped a pass behind the defense into the right side of the box for Mylon, who calmly collected the pass and deposited a shot past the oncoming goalkeeper into the right side of the net.
  • Williams' Kai Desmangles ran onto a pass from Andrew Martins and scored from the right side of the box with 1:05 remaining to make it 4-1.

Notes

  • Mylon put away his first career goal on a career-high six shot attempts.
  • Tracy provided his first career assist.
  • Sean Curran '29 and Troy Miller '28 recorded three shots each.
  • Peter Montesano Scheibe '27 tallied five saves for the Continentals.
  • Williams' Alex Bethencourt registered a team-high three shots.

Next Match

Hamilton will return home to take on Bates College (1-1) in another NESCAC match on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 2 p.m.
