Box Score Hamilton College's Michaela Giuttari '20 scored two goals and helped lead the nationally ranked No. 15 Continentals to a 3-2 NESCAC win against No. 12 Trinity College at Trinity's Sheppard Field on Saturday.
Hamilton (3-1, 2-0 NESCAC) posted its first win against the Bantams in seven all-time meetings. The Continentals nearly picked up that first win last year at home but Trinity pulled out a 4-3 overtime victory.
Giuttari also notched a pair of goals in Tuesday's 3-2 setback at No. 9 Skidmore College. She leads the team with seven goals in just four games. Julia Booth '19 made two saves as Hamilton held a 17-8 shot advantage and were awarded six penalty corners to four for the Bantams.
Lori Berger turned away 13 shots for Trinity, which never led. The Bantams dropped to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
The Continentals grabbed an early 1-0 lead after a corner led to a goal by Lizzie Clarke '20 just 59 seconds into the first half. Clarke's fourth career goal was assisted by Liz Wagenbach '18 and Tatiana Bradley '19. Bradley inserted the ball to the stopper Wagenbach on the corner.
Trinity's Kelcie Finn tied the score with 24:13 left in the half. Sarah Stinebaugh '19 nearly gave the lead back to Hamilton five minutes later but a defensive save by Olivia Hoyda kept the ball out of the cage.
Giuttari put the Continentals back in front with 10:18 remaining in the half when she cracked a shot from just inside the arc that bounced once before it hit the back of the cage. Kendall Brown drew the Bantams even again with 4:41 to go.
Giuttari notched the game-winner with 20:06 left in the second half on the 21st goal of her Hamilton career. Trinity had two corners and took two shots in the last five minutes but Booth stopped both of them.
The Continentals play their third game on the road against a ranked team in six days on Sunday, Sept. 17 when they take on No. 5 Middlebury in NESCAC action at noon.
