Box Score 2 The Hamilton College softball team played its final scheduled non-conference games Wednesday, traveling to Saratoga Springs for a doubleheader against Skidmore College. The host Thoroughbreds swept the two games, winning the opener 9-1 in six innings and rallying for an 8-7 walk-off win in game two.
The Continentals (10-22 overall) held a 6-2 lead in the nightcap after a three-run home run by Jodi Weiss '19. Skidmore (16-20) came back and took the lead in the bottom of the sixth and after Hamilton tied the score in the seventh, pushed across the winning run on a bases-loaded single.
Weiss finished with four runs batted in. She hit a sacrifice fly during Hamilton's three-run second then clubbed her first career home run in the fourth inning.
Phoebe Collins '18 singled home Ursula Castiblanco '19 for Hamilton's first run in the second and Caroline Chivily '19 capped the inning with a run-scoring infield single.
Collins and Castiblanco each had two hits. Collins and Emily Fraser '20 each scored twice.
Lauren Fortunato capped Skidmore's rally in the seventh after Hamilton nearly escaped from a bases-loaded/no-out predicament. Two walks and a hit batter started the inning before the Continentals retired the next two hitters -- with Collins throwing home to cut down a run for the second out. Fortunato completed the sweep for the hosts with a single to left field.
Kristina Foley singled in two runs to cap Skidmore's three-run fourth, then gave the Thoroughbreds their first lead, drawing a bases-loaded walk to force in the go-ahead run two batters after Karly Fishkin singled to tie the score at 6-6.
In the opener, Fishkin and Fortunato combined for five hits, five runs scored and five driven in. Fishkin hit a two-run home run in the second and singled home a run in the sixth. Fortunato followed Fishkin's RBI single with a two-run double.
Amanda Carilli threw complete-game wins in both games. She allowed just five hits and an unearned run in the opener.
Caitlin Berreitter '20 drove in Hamilton's run, singling home Helen Lin '19 who'd reached on an error to open the third.
The Continentals host Wesleyan University this weekend in a NESCAC West Division series at the Loop Road Softball/Baseball Complex. The teams play a 5 p.m. game Friday and a noon doubleheader Saturday.
