Box Score Trinity College scored the first three goals and the Bantams led the whole way en route to a 14-6 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Steuben Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Continentals (4-11, 1-9 NESCAC) played their final game of 2017 and recognized their 10 seniors prior to the start of the contest. The all-time series between Hamilton and Trinity is tied at four wins apiece.
The Bantams (5-9, 1-8) won their second straight game and wrap up their season with a NESCAC home contest against Amherst College on Wednesday, April 26 at 6 p.m. Trinity tied its season high for most goals in a game.
Clay McCollum '19 paced the Continentals' offense with three goals and an assist for four points. McCollum led the team with 28 goals and 36 points this year. He posted nine multi-goal games. Chris Conley '20 chipped in a goal and two helpers. Zach Kleinbaum '19 led the defense with three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Casey Kopp '17 and Trip Connors '17 scooped up three ground balls apiece as well. John Schisler '17 made a season-high 15 saves in 56-plus minutes in goal.
Max DeLaMater topped the Bantams with two goals and two assists. John Caraviello contributed two goals and an assist and Ben Knaus, Troy Hanlon and Matt Gardiner scored two goals each. Knaus, who leads the team with 25 goals and 30 points, added four ground balls. Scott Morgan won 17 of 20 faceoffs and picked up nine ground balls. Woody Hamilton stopped 11 shots in nearly 57 minutes in goal.
Caraviello scored twice in the first quarter and Trinity led 3-0 with 5:21 left. Conley found McCollum for Hamilton's first goal with 4:31 remaining but the Continentals didn't get any closer. The Bantams scored the next four goals and led by at least five the rest of the afternoon.
Knaus started the four-goal run with 1:59 to go in the first and Trinity led 4-1 after the opening 15 minutes. Knaus made it two goals in a row just 36 seconds into the second quarter. Gardiner and DeLaMater followed suit and the Bantams had a six-goal cushion with 9:08 left. Henry Hill '19 stopped the bleeding for Hamilton on his 17th goal with 4:50 remaining but Gardiner gave Trinity an 8-2 advantage on a pass from Caraviello with 3:15 to go. The Bantams took their six-goal lead into the break.
The Continentals scored two of the three goals in the third quarter as they pulled to within 9-4. Jack Gaul '18 tallied his 13th and Conley added his 17th. J.D. Brachman '17 was credited with his third assist on Conley's goal with 3:21 left.
Trinity scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter and put the game away. Hanlon notched the first two and DeLaMater made it 12-4 on a man-up goal with 7:59 remaining.
