Box Score 2 The Hamilton College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Utica College Tuesday evening. The Continentals won the nightcap 10-2 after losing game one 9-1.
Both games were shortened by the eight-run rule, with the opener going six innings and game two ending after five. Hamilton is now 8-17 on the season.
In the second game the Continentals scored nine times in the first two innings, collecting 12 hits in their first two at-bats. Kendall Searcy '20 had run-scoring hits in each inning.
Caitlin Berreitter '20 and Delaney Nicol '19 singled twice and Daphne Assimakopoulos '17 drove in a second-inning run with a single up the middle. Two Pioneer passed balls led to two more Hamilton runs.
After the Pioneers scored to cut the Hamilton lead to seven, Nicol hit a fourth-inning sacrifice fly to re-establish the eight-run Continental lead.
Ursula Castiblanco '19 earned her team-leading fourth win before Zoe Singer '18 closed out the game with two innings of one-hit relief.
In game one, Ashleah Yzaguirre '19 drove in Hamilton's run with a third-inning double that brought home Hannah Staab '17.
Nicole Rice had three hits and drove in three runs to lead the Pioneers (9-11 overall).
Brittany Meka scattered four hits for the complete-game win.
Hamilton is back in action this weekend, hosting a three-game NESCAC West Division series against Middlebury at Hamilton's Loop Road Softball/Baseball Complex. The teams play a 5 p.m. single game Friday and a noon doubleheader Saturday.
