Box Score 2 The Hamilton College softball team wrapped up its season-opening spring trip Wednesday in Clermont, Fla. The Continentals lost 8-5 to Babson College and dropped an 8-3 decision to St. Olaf College to finish 5-10 in Florida.
In Wednesday's first game, the Continentals scored four times in the first but the Beavers (7-3) scored two runs in each of the middle three innings and thwarted a Hamilton rally in the bottom of the seventh – the Continentals scored once and brought the winning run to the plate.
Singles by Kendall Searcy '20 and Ursula Castiblanco '19 and a walk to Sophia Cerreta '20 loaded the bases in the seventh before Helen Lin '19 singled in a run to pull the Continentals to 8-5 but Babson retired the final batter to claim the win.
The Continentals' four-run first started with a leadoff home run by Hannah Staab '17 (her third career homer). After walks to Searcy and Daphne Assimakopoulos '17 and a Cerreta single loaded the bases; Emily Fraser '20 doubled home two runs and Lin followed with an RBI single.
Babson took the lead for good in the fourth on a two-run single by Samantha Smith.
Leslie Moore and Jacqueline Paul both had two hits for Babson.
In their second game the Continentals were held to five hits and the Oles took advantage of three Hamilton errors.
Hamilton scored its three runs over the first two innings. The Continentals' first run came when Castiblanco drove in Liz Brautigam '19 after an error allowed Brautigam to reach base.
In the second Cerreta led off with a single; a ground out and a pair of wild pitches brought her around the bases. Staab singled in Delaney Nicol '19, who'd singled with two outs.
Kristina Lodahl doubled and singled twice for St. Olaf (9-5). Maggie Casper added two hits and scored two runs.
The Continentals' next action is slated for Monday, when they're scheduled to host SUNY Polytechnic Monday in 3:30 p.m. doubleheader. The games will be the team's first at the newly constructed Loop Road Baseball/Softball Complex.
