Box Score 2 The Hamilton College softball team continued spring break play Wednesday morning, facing SUNY Cortland in Kissimmee, Fla. The Red Dragons rallied for a 15-9 win.
The Continentals (0-4 overall) outhit the Red Dragons 16-15 but four Hamilton errors led to five unearned runs and Cortland (2-3) scored eight fifth-inning runs after trailing 4-1.
After the Red Dragons' fifth-inning outburst put them up 11-4, the Continentals scored five runs in their final three times up.
Daphne Assimakopoulos '17 and Emily Fraser '20 both had four of Hamilton's season-best 16 hits.
Assimakopoulos also drove in four runs. She singled in the game's first run in the bottom of the first, added a sacrifice fly in Hamilton's three-run third as the Continentals took a 4-2 lead and doubled home a pair of runs in the sixth.
Hamilton scored two more runs in the seventh with Caitlin Berreitter '20 and Fraser singling in runs.
Berreitter, Ashleah Yzaguirre '19 and Kendall Searcy '20 finished with two hits each. Searcy and Yzaguirre both scored three runs.
Niki Barbato went four-for-five and scored three runs to pace the Cortland offense. Skyler Hoyt doubled three times.
Rosie Phillips drove in two runs during Cortland's fifth-inning outburst. The Red Dragons took advantage of three Hamilton errors to score three unearned runs. Sabrina Kraska and Barbato added RBI singles.
The Continentals lost 6-5 to Mount St. Joseph in their second game of the day.
The Lions scored five times in the bottom of the sixth then withstood a Continental rally in the seventh to hold on for the one-run win.
Hamilton trailed 6-4 after Mount St. Joseph's five-run sixth but pulled to within a run when Berreitter hit her first career home run with two outs.

Brianna Kauf singled in two runs and after an infield single and walk loaded the bases, Mount St. Joseph went ahead on an infield error that brought home two runs.
Katie Hoelmer and Morgan Kain each had two of the Lions' eight hits.
Paige Kiesewetter earned the complete-game win. Hamilton's Molly Leitner '19 allowed just four hits and one run over four innings of work.
The Continentals are idle Thursday before facing Dubuque and nationally ranked No. 7 Rowan Friday.
