Box Score Keene State College scored the first five goals and the Owls never trailed in a 14-7 non-conference win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Northeast Regional Park in Davenport, Fla., on Wednesday night.
Hamilton (2-2 overall) had won its last three games against Keene State. All three games were played in Florida. Nate Weinrauch '17 paced the offense with a pair of goals and an assist, Jack Gaul '18 chipped in two goals and Clay McCollum '19 added a goal and an assist.
Trip Connors '17 won 17 of 25 faceoffs and scooped up 11 ground balls for the Continentals. Eric Zurmuehle '18, who had been taking the majority of the team's faceoffs, is injured and didn't play. Brock Bowers '20 and Andrej Bogdanovics '19 picked up three ground balls apiece, and John Schisler '17 made eight saves.
Hunter Arnold and Paul Beling led the Owls (3-2) with three goals apiece. Frank Bacarella, Robert Hart and Bryan Rotatori contributed two goals and an assist each.
Hamilton was still within striking distance early in the fourth quarter when Gaul scored on a pass from Chris Conley '20 during a man-up situation with 14:07 left and pulled the Continentals within 10-7. The goal was Gaul's fourth this year. Conley leads the team with 11 points.
It turned out to be the last goal Hamilton scored as Keene State ended the game with four straight. Arnold started the run on a man-up tally with 9:07 remaining and Rotatori made it 12-7 with another goal 2:05 later. Arnold and Hart clinched the victory on their goals with 2:23 and 49 seconds to go, respectively.
The Owls held the Continentals scoreless for the first 27 minutes as they built a 5-0 advantage. Beling scored two of the five goals, including the one that put Keene State up by five with 5:03 left in the second quarter.
Hamilton roared back with three goals in the last three minutes of the quarter and another in the opening moments of the third quarter. Weinrauch started the spurt on a man-up goal with 2:56 remaining in the first half on a feed from McCollum. Bowers added his first collegiate goal on an assist from Chad Morse '19 with 1:14 to go and McCollum made it 5-3 just 9 seconds later with his seventh goal on a pass from Bogdanovics. Bogdanovics recorded his first career point.
Weinrauch pulled the Continentals within 5-4 on his fourth goal this year 22 seconds into the third quarter. The goal was the first of eight the teams combined to score during the 15-minute quarter.
The Owls pushed their lead back to four with three goals in a span of 2:11 midway through the third. Hamilton cut its deficit in half to 8-6 on goals by Henry Hill '19 with 8:10 left and Gaul with 7:10 remaining. Hill's goal was his first for the Continentals and Weinrauch was credited with his team-high fourth assist on Gaul's tally.
Keene State gave themselves some breathing room going into the fourth quarter by scoring a pair of goals late in the third. Anthony Marcella made it 9-6 with 6:29 to go and Hart scored a man-up goal with 4:41 left that gave the Owls a 10-6 cushion.
Hamilton plays one more game in Florida -- a NESCAC clash with nationally ranked No. 19 Bowdoin College back at Northeast Regional Park on Saturday, March 18 at 11 a.m.
