Box Score Hamilton College's Tatiana Bradley '19 scored a career-best three goals and the nationally ranked No. 15 Continentals posted a 3-1 NESCAC field hockey win against the Colby College Mules at Hamilton's Goodfriend Field on a warm and sunny Saturday afternoon.
The Continentals (9-5, 6-4 NESCAC) have finished the regular season and are in fourth place in the conference standings. The other 10 NESCAC teams all play one conference game this coming week. The top four seeds host a NESCAC Championship quarterfinal on Saturday, Oct. 28. Hamilton recorded its third straight win in the series against Colby.
The Mules (9-5, 4-5) are fifth in this week's NCAA New England West Region rankings. Colby is in a three-way tie for seventh place in the conference standings with Trinity College and Bates College. The Mules host Bates on Wednesday, Oct. 25. The top eight seeds advance to the NESCAC Championship next Saturday.
Bradley, who has seven goals and 20 points this year, gave the Continentals a 1-0 lead with 16:58 left in the first half. After Bradley inserted the ball on a penalty corner, she jumped in front of the cage and redirected a shot by Aly Skelly '18 past goalie Riley Whitmyer (eight saves). Skelly was credited with her fourth assist.
Colby drew even with 4:34 remaining in the half. Hamilton's Julia Booth '19 (four saves) stopped an initial shot by Merrill Read but Eleanor Fitzgerald was there to knock in the rebound from the center of the cage for her third goal this year. The score was tied 1-1 at the break.
Bradley put the Continentals up for good with 13:49 to go. Michaela Giuttari '20 sent a centering pass towards the front of the cage and Bradley, who had squeezed between Whitmyer and the goal line, redirected the ball into the net. Giuttari picked up her third assist and is tied for second in the NESCAC with 37 points.
Bradley all but clinched the Hamilton victory a little under two minutes later with her 14th career goal. After Bradley inserted the ball on another penalty corner, Lizzie Clarke '20 unleashed a shot that was redirected by Bradley from near the left post. The assist was the fourth this season for Clarke.
The Mules called a timeout after they fell behind 3-1 with 11:53 left but didn't get a shot off the rest of the afternoon. The Continentals held a 22-13 shot advantage and were awarded 12 corners to Colby's three.
