Unbeaten men's hockey tops Skidmore 4-1

Box Score

The Hamilton College men's hockey team remained undefeated, defeating host Skidmore 4-1 Monday afternoon in Saratoga Springs. At 8-0-2, the Continentals, ranked ninth in both national polls, are the only unbeaten team at any level of NCAA men's hockey.

Three Continentals recorded career-best scoring totals and Hamilton held the host Thoroughbreds (6-6-1 overall) to just 25 shots. The game marked the seventh time in 10 games that Hamilton, who leads Division III in scoring defense (1.30), allowed no more than a single goal.

Tyler Bruneteau '18 had a hand in each of the Continentals' first three goals, Truman Landowski '17 scored a pair of goals and Ian Nichols '19 assisted on two Hamilton scores.

Bruneteau opened the scoring with a power-play goal midway through the opening period. His third goal of the season was assisted by Jason Brochu '19 and Jon Carkeek '17. Brochu and Carkeek both have six assists – second on the team – this winter.

After a scoreless second period, the line of Landowski, Nichols and Bruneteau contributed a pair of goals in a 4:29 span of the third. Both goals were scored by Landowski with assists from Nichols and Bruneteau – who both recorded their first two assists of the season.

Bennett Morrison '20 closed out the scoring with his first collegiate goal, taking advantage of an empty Skidmore net with 54 seconds left. He was the 16th Continental to collect a goal or assist in Hamilton's sweep of the home-and-home series.

Charlie Fennell '17 picked up his second win of the season, stopping 24 Thoroughbred shots. The Continentals outshot the hosts 40-25 and killed both Skidmore power plays. They've thwarted the last 11 power-play tries they've faced, including all 10 of Skidmore's attempts in the series.

Jack Barton scored the only Thoroughbred goal, picking up his third of the year with 5:15 remaining in the third. Quincy Gregg and Matt Wolf assisted on the play. Brandon Kasel made 36 saves.

Hamilton returns to NESCAC play Friday, hosting Colby (ranked 14th by USCHO.com) in a 7 p.m. game at Sage Rink.
