Megan Jones had a pair of assists for Rensselaer, setting up the Engineers' first goal by injecting a penalty corner to the top of the circle for Colleen Morris, who drove the ball through traffic and into the back of the cage with just over six minutes left in the opening period. Rensselaer turned another penalty corner into a 2-0 advantage 3:11 later when Jones' initial pass was taken by Claire Cecilio at the top of the circle and set up for Taylor Clink, who notched her second goal of the year.
The hosts added some insurance with 4:55 remaining when an open Nessa Costa swept the ball into the far corner of the goal.
Rachel Kaufman earned the win in goal for Rensselaer by stopping six shots, including five in the first half. Julia Booth '19 had four saves for the Continentals, who were outshot 16-15.
Hamilton's best opportunity at taking the lead came later in the first half when Gabe Moss '19 had her initial shot stopped by Kaufman and her second attempt saved by defender Casey Collette.
The Continentals open NESCAC play Saturday, traveling to Lewiston, Maine, for a noon game at Bates College. The Bobcats are 1-0.
