Box Score The Hamilton College men's soccer team rolled to its highest-scoring win in nearly six years Wednesday afternoon, topping the visiting Ithaca College Bombers 5-1 at Love Field.
The non-league contest matched the league leaders in the NESCAC (where Hamilton is 2-0-0) and the Empire 8.
The Continentals (3-2-0 overall) posted their first five-goal performance since blanking Cazenovia 6-0 in 2010 and held Ithaca (3-4-0) without a shot on goal until the second half.
Eight Hamilton players collected either a goal or an assist, with five recording their first collegiate point. Rowan Myers '19 scored the first two goals of his career and three Continentals – Mike Lubelczyk '17, Alec Talsania '17 and Aidan Wood '20 – assisted on a pair of goals.
Alex Cadet '17 opened the scoring in the eighth minute. After dropping off a short corner to Talsania, Cadet received a pass from Lubelczyk near the penalty kick area and Cadet's hard shot deflected off a Bomber and between the legs of Ithaca goalkeeper Zach Jacobsen.
The goal was the second of Cadet's career – he also scored in last year's win over the Bombers.
Killian Clancy '18 netted his first college goal with 13 minutes left in the opening period, sending a shot from the right side into the top right corner of the net.
Wood set up another Hamilton goal just before halftime. With 2:31 left before intermission, he took a shot that was saved by Jacobsen, then gathered the rebound and passed to Myers, whose shot from 15 yards out deflected off another Ithaca defender. Jefri Schmidt '20 recorded his first career goal 2:07 into the second half when he took a pass from Talsania and shot from the top of the center of the box.
Myers' second goal restored the hosts' four-goal lead after Ithaca got on the board midway through the second half. Lukas Puris '20 gathered the rebound of his own shot after Jacobsen's initial save, then passed from the left side of the box to Myers all alone for a wide-open goal from point-blank range.
Zachary Lichtman converted a free kick for Ithaca's only goal, scoring from 25 yards into the top right corner.
Jacobsen made six saves for the Bombers, who lost their three-game streak of shutout wins.
Harris Pollack '17, the first of three goalkeepers Hamilton used, earned the win despite not having to make a save. After Pollack played the first half, Linds Cadwell '20 held the Bombers scoreless for a stretch of 25:01 in his first collegiate appearance. Pete Calleri '18 finished up in net, stopping a pair of shots.
Hamilton has posted a 7-3-1 record in the last 11 meetings between the two teams, cutting Ithaca's series lead to 14-12-4.
The Continentals continue their five-game homestand Saturday, hosting the Connecticut College Camels in a 1:30 p.m. NESCAC game at Love Field.
