Softball wraps up five-game weekend at Weseyan

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Hamilton College softball team dropped a NESCAC West Division doubleheader at Wesleyan University Sunday. The host Cardinals won both games 8-0; the games had originally been scheduled for last Saturday as part of a three-game series. The Continentals (9-12, 2-4 NESCAC West) won the opener of the series 6-5 last Friday.

Wesleyan allowed just seven hits in the two games, which were both shortened because of the eight-run rule. Game one was called after five innings and the nightcap ended after six.

Hamilton's best offensive chance in the opener came in the top of the fourth after Olivia Gozdz '16 beat out an infield hit. She stole second and third and Delaney Nicol '19 walked and stole second but the Cardinals escaped without allowing a run.

Nicol had two hits and stole a base in game two. Gozdz singled and stole second in the first inning but was stranded.

Julie McDonald and Su Pardo both threw complete-game shutouts for Wesleyan (16-9, 2-4).

Rachel Kantor drove in four runs in the doubleheader. Olivia Gorman, Mollie Grunat, Amanda Roosa and Kantor each had three of Wesleyan's 17 hits on the day. Grunat scored four runs and Roosa drove in three.

Hamilton returns to action Wednesday, playing a 3:30 p.m. non-league doubleheader at Union College.
