Softball downed by Rowan

Box Score

Two Rowan University pitchers surrendered one run on six hits and the Profs posted a 4-1 win against the Hamilton College Continentals at the Osceola County Softball Complex in Kissimmee, Fla., on Thursday.

Hamilton (1-6 overall) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning but Rowan got that run back in the bottom of the frame, took the lead in the fourth and added two insurance runs in the sixth. The Profs (11-5) are receiving votes in this week's Division III Top 25 coaches poll.

Ashleah Yzaguirre '19 doubled twice and drove in the Continentals' run. Molly Leitner '19 pitched all six innings and allowed three earned runs on five hits and five walks.

Mackenzie Juodaitis started in the circle for Rowan and allowed one run on three hits in five innings. Allison Nolan tossed two scoreless innings for her fourth save. Nolan gave up three hits and fanned three.

In the third, Leitner led off with a walk and went to second base on a single to right field by Delaney Nicol '19. Yzaguirre's one-out double to left center plated Leitner with the game's first run. Yzaguirre and Nicol were left stranded at second and third when the next two batters popped out to third base.

The Profs' Sammy Vradenburg tied it at 1-1 in the bottom of the third when she scored on a wild pitch with two outs. In the next inning, Rowan took the lead on a two-out single through the left side by Damariz Mercado that drove in pinch runner Rosalie Hood.

Hamilton tried to rally trailing just 2-1 in the top of the sixth. Olivia Gozdz '16 hit a one-out single up the middle and went to second base with two outs on a base hit to left by Liz Brautigam '19. Gozdz stole third and with the tying run just 60 feet away, Nolan struck out the next batter to end the inning.

The Continentals take on Springfield College at 9 a.m. and Dickinson College at 1:30 p.m. in Kissimmee on Friday, March 18.
