Box Score The Hamilton College men's hockey team remained unbeaten with a 2-0 NESCAC win at Wesleyan Saturday afternoon. The Continentals are one of only three teams in Division III who haven't lost a game this season.
Hamilton (5-0-1, 2-0-1 NESCAC) is off to the program's best start since the 1993-1994 Continentals opened their season 6-0-1.
Evan Buitenhuis '18 stopped 28 shots to record his fifth career shutout. He finished the weekend with a .987 save percentage and 0.50 goals against average after making 45 saves in Hamilton's 4-1 win at Trinity Friday night.
Rory Gagnon '19 and Brandon Willett '18 scored Hamilton's goals as the Continentals stretched their unbeaten streak against the Cardinals to seven.
The game marked the fourth time this winter the Continentals have held an opponent to no more than a goal. Hamilton now leads Division III in scoring defense (1.33 goals per game).
Gagnon opened the scoring with his second of the season. Sterling Bray '20 assisted on Gagnon's goal, which came with 5:20 left in the opening period.
Midway through the second, Willett notched his team-best fourth goal of the year. Robbie Murden '17 and Neil Conway '18 picked up the assists as Murden raised his career total to 93 points.
Buitenhuis now leads the nation with a save percentage of .965 and his 1.18 goals against average ranks third. He's shut Wesleyan out twice and has stopped 146 of 148 shots (98.6 percent) in four wins over the Cardinals.
Dawson Sprigings made 26 saves for Wesleyan (4-2-0, 2-2).
Hamilton plays another NESCAC road series next weekend, traveling to Middlebury (Friday at 7 p.m.) and Williams (Saturday at 3 p.m.). The games will be the Continentals' last of the fall semester; they'll be idle for three weeks before resuming their schedule in 2017.
