Men's soccer finishes season in NESCAC final

Box Score

The Hamilton College men's soccer team wrapped up its season making the program's first appearance in the NESCAC title game, losing 3-0 to defending NCAA champion Amherst Sunday at Amherst's Hitchcock Field. The Continentals finish the season 10-7-1.

Amherst, the top seed in the NESCAC Championship, improved to 16-1-1 in winning the NESCAC's automatic bid to the NCAA playoffs. The hosts scored a goal with just seconds remaining before intermission, then sealed the win with a pair of second-half goals.

The Continentals had played the defending NCAA champions even in the opening half – the two sides were even in shots and Hamilton held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks before the period's final play.

Luke Nguyen scored the first of his two goals just two seconds before the halftime buzzer sounded, corralling the ball after a shot by Cameron Bean was blocked by a Continental defender.

Nguyen scored 4:29 into the second half, with Bryce Ciambella credited with the assist. Amherst closed out the scoring in the 65th minute on a goal by Weller Hlinomaz.

Linds Cadwell '20 made a pair of saves while playing the first 84:16 for the visitors. Jake Hamill '17 finished the game in net, stopping the only shot he faced.

Hamilton was making its second appearance in the NESCAC playoffs since joining the conference for men's soccer in 2011. The fourth-seeded Continentals posted 2-1 overtime wins over Connecticut College in the quarterfinals and against Middlebury in the semifinals to reach the title game; the victories were their first in NESCAC Championship competition.
