Hamilton falls to defending national champs in NESCAC playoffs

Box Score

The Hamilton College women's soccer team lost to top-seeded Williams 4-1 in the quarterfinal round of the NESCAC Championship. The Continentals, who were making their fourth NESCAC playoff appearance in six years, finish the season 5-8-3.

Katja Dunlap '18 scored Hamilton's goal -- just the fifth given up this season by Williams, who won the 2015 NESCAC and NCAA titles. The Ephs improved to 15-0-1 with their 10th consecutive win. They'll host the semifinals and final of the postseason tournament Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 5 and 6.

Dunlap gave the Continentals the lead 15 minutes into play with her second goal of the season. Her second goal in four games came after a Continental corner kick. Katie Kreider '18 sent the kick in from the right corner to the feet of Amanda Becker '18. As the Eph defenders converged on Becker, she passed the ball to Dunlap to the left, and with only goalkeeper Olivia Barnhill to beat, Dunlap slotted her shot under Barnhill's arms as she came out of the net.

Williams tied the score in the 22nd minute on a goal by Natalie Turner-Wyatt.

Natasha Albaneze delivered a cross into the box; Hamilton's initial clearance wound up controlled by Turner-Wyatt, who chipped the ball into the top right corner of the net from 18 yards out.

Sarah Sciré led the Ephs in a counterattack after stealing the ball from a Continental to set up the go-ahead goal less than three minutes later. Sciré's through ball was deflected by a Hamilton defender but Kristi Kirshe collected the deflection in stride and carried the ball into the penalty area before scoring the game winner.

Early in the second period, another cross from Albaneze led to Williams' third goal. Danielle Sim received the pass in the penalty area and shot over the arms of Hamilton goaltender Emily Dumont '18.

Alison Lu closed out the scoring with 19:21 left in regulation. Kirshe ran down an errant cross and directed a pass to the far post where Lu turned it into the game's final goal.

Dumont made six saves – one short of her season high. The Continentals forced Barnhill into her second-highest save total of the season; she stopped eight shots.
