Sullivan ’29 nets hat trick in women’s soccer comeback win over Bates

Continentals collected their first NESCAC win of the season

CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College's Lila Sullivan '29 completed her hat trick with goals in the 80th and 86th minutes as the Continentals rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat the Bates College Bobcats 3-2 at Hamilton's Love Field on Saturday, Sept. 12.

Season Update

  • Hamilton (2-1 overall) bounced back from a defeat at Williams in its NESCAC opener on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
  • Bates (1-2) was coming off an 8-0 win over Emmanuel on Tuesday. The Bobcats also suffered a setback at Williams in their season opener on Sept. 5.

How It Happened

  • The Continentals opened the scoring just over 23 minutes into the match. Sarah Flood '27 won a header off a Bates goal kick and played the ball up the left channel to Sullivan. Sullivan took a touch toward the edge of the six-yard box before poking a right-footed shot past the diving goalkeeper and into the right-side netting.
  • Hamilton goalkeeper Corah Boller '29 came off her line and stopped a shot from point-blank range following a Bates free kick in the 26th minute to preserve the Continentals' lead.
  • Hamilton kicked off to begin the second half, but Bates needed just 20 seconds to level the match. Gwyn Jamison won possession in the Bobcats' attacking third and played the ball ahead to Whitney Ladich, who fired a right-footed shot off the post and into the net from the edge of the box to make it 1-1.
  • Samantha Tyska '27 put a shot on target from inside the six-yard box following a Hamilton corner in the 49th minute, but Bates' Brady Jacobson made the stop.
  • Ladich capitalized on a loose ball near the goal line and tucked it into the net in the 51st minute for her second goal of the match, giving Bates a 2-1 lead.
  • With just under 11 minutes remaining, Hamilton's Haley Cramer '28 dribbled up the right wing and sent a cross towards the middle of the box. Maddie Fernandes '30 headed the ball to the edge of the six, and Sullivan used her first touch to redirect it into the right side of the goal and tied the match at 2-2.
  • Sullivan carried the ball up the left side with a little over four minutes remaining, cut inside to evade a defender and curled a right-footed shot off the right post and into the net to put Hamilton back in front, 3-2.
