Men's soccer closes NESCAC play with big win at Colby

Box Score

The Hamilton College men's soccer team posted its biggest NESCAC win since joining the conference, blanking the host Colby Mules 4-0 Saturday in Waterville, Maine. The Continentals improved to 5-4-1 in the NESCAC and 7-6-1 overall.

Matt Casadei '19 scored the first two goals of his career to lead Hamilton, who moved a step closer to a top-four finish in the NESCAC standings and the right to host a quarterfinal game in the NESCAC Championship. The Continentals, who have finished their conference schedule, are tied for third in the league standings.

Casadei scored a goal in each half as the Continentals recorded their first four-goal win ever over a NESCAC opponent. Jefri Schmidt '20 scored his fourth goal and Jeffrey Plump '20 closed out the scoring with his first collegiate goal.

Linds Cadwell '20 made his first collegiate start in goal and earned the shutout by stopping all four shots he faced.

The Continentals got on the board in the eighth minute on a set piece. Quinn O'Malley '18 sent an indirect kick into the box, where Casadei headed it into the net.

Hamilton's three second-half goals all came with the Mules playing short-handed after Avery Heilbron was given a red card early in the period.

Casadei's second goal, 6:33 after intermission, put the visitors up 2-0. Mike Lubelczyk '17 assisted on the goal.

Schmidt followed with his fourth goal of the fall – matching Lubelczyk for the team lead – in the 78th minute. Rowan Myers '19 picked up the assist.

Plump closed out the scoring with 3:41 left to play.

Avery Gibson made seven saves for the Mules, who were outshot 16-9.

Hamilton's regular season wraps up Wednesday with a 4:30 p.m. game against visiting SUNY Polytechnic. The game will be played on Hamilton's Withiam Field.
